My first experience here. Had the Montego Bay Red Pea after sampling several others. Soup was outstanding. Seems a tad pricey though. Small cup is $4. A basic grilled cheese, the same one that I make at home with Wonder Bread and American Cheese is $4 too. Mary's Kitchen Port makes awesome soups everyday too, but their "cup" is much larger and only $3.

My husband and I both agree that The Soup Cup is our favorite place for lunch. All you have to do is try it once, and you will want to go there often. It is easy, fast, and so fresh and good. We are always happy with our lunch there. The other day they had a cream of chicken type soup that my husband said was the best soup he has ever tasted! He liked it so much that we bought a quart after lunch to take home. We froze it, and we just ate it at home, which is what prompted me to write this review. I think we will start taking more of it home, it reheated from frozen very nicely, and we were so happy to have something so good to eat on a Sunday afternoon on a cold day (with no effort). The biggest issue you will have with The Soup Cup is that it is so hard to choose which one to order. We usually taste a few before choosing, which they encourage, but then so many are good that it always makes it hard to decide. Grilled cheese goes great with the soup. We usually split a swiss, but there is a french onion one sometimes that is our favorite. It is swiss cheese, with caramelized onions...pretty amazing sandwich-who knew?? These soups are all made from scratch every day. It makes you realize how crummy most soup really is, and that even Panera Bread soup is just frozen soup. The Soup Cup is so far above any other soup we have ever had. They are very creative and inventive with the recipes. It would actually be good if they had a few things every day that were more basic. They need to quit trying so hard to find new recipes, we like all of their standards just fine!! There is definitely some cooking talent going on here. It is good if you are in a hurry too, since the soups are all ready to eat. You will always find something great to eat here! I love getting the menu on facebook daily.

Omg they were busy and not nice enough to me..I don't eat this and I don't eat that and they didn't have what I liiiike...waaaahhh...WTFever. Nice people, fresh soup, pretty location. No the fries aren't really like Belgians, not twice fried like in Belgian and a bit soggy. But they got 23 dipping sauces. If you start making real Belgian fries, I'll give you 5 stars.

We love this restaurant so much! What a great discovery. The restaurant is located in an old train depot in a former industrial neighborhood...a little edgy in a good way, with new businesses and building projects going on nearby. When you walk inside you will be immediately overwhelmed by the menu: EIGHT different soup recipes every day, from all parts of the globe; about five toasted-cheese sandwich choices; and hand-crafted French fries with EIGHTEEN different dipping-sauce options. The soups are all scratch made, with scratch-made stock -- a huge commitment to quality and local sourcing. You can get free samples of each soup. We not only loved the menu but the enthusiasm of the owners, who obviously love what they do and have a great, fun venue for doing it. We thought that prices were reasonable for the selection and craft involved in the menu items. On this particular visit I had a cream-of-chicken-with-mirepoix soup that was velvety rich and flavorful; my partner had a delicious cheddar-ale soup made with handcrafted ale; we also tried samples of bigos (Polish hunter's stew), vegetarian vegetable and crab callaloo soup that were all unique and good. We loved the French fries and the sauce choices; we also split a toasted cream-cheese-and-apricot-jam sandwich that was so surprisingly good...something I would never have thought to make on my own but that is on my sandwich rotation from now on. The eight daily soup choices have alternatives for vegans, other vegetarians and gluten-intolerant folks. This is a lunch-only restaurant at this time...they're only open from 11 to about 4, and are closed Sundays and Mondays. My advice for first-timers is to just take a deep breath when you walk in, not get overwhelmed by your choices and feel free to sample a whole flight of soups before making your selection(s). Also: GPS the location, because it's off the beaten path for most tourists; you'll get a nice tour of neighborhoods, and it's worth the meander into the city. And this is a cash-only business, so have some folding money in your pocket.

Had a bad experience with a soup that was supposed to be gluten free, it was delicious but, about 2 hours later I was violently ill. I called to ask them what was in the soup and it turns out the broth was made with BEER!!! I lost half a work day and while the person on the phone (I believe it was the owner having spoken with her before) was apologetic, no offer of help or a refund was offered. Very disappointing. I'd been two or three times before and found the soups to be okay but, overpriced. The "frites" were soggy and sauces overly sugary - not at all like true Belgian frites.

I was so disappointed with this place that I threw away the punch card they gave me. I won't be back. For the price ($7.42 for what I'm guessing was 10 oz of soup!!), I was expecting gourmet, premium, delicious soup, but I honestly have had better soup out of a can. It was water with chunks and very light seasoning. I tasted two others, and they were the same. Light broth and carrots, mostly. I don't eat beef or pork, and I found meatballs in my "Hearty Harvest" soup. I guess it's my fault for not asking, but that sure is misleading. Also, I personally hate it when I have to listen to a "spiel" before I order, and theirs was long. Your choices are soup, fries, and grilled cheese. No need to dumb that down.

This place is Souper!!!!!!! Stopped in here with my one year-old for a quick lunch and was super surprised. At first I wasn't sure why there was so many employees working the counter but I found out quick enough that they really take the extra time for customer service. There are eight soups made fresh daily and you get to try all of them before you buy if you want. The fries were awesome too and the grilled cheese was great though I wish that they used a different type of bread or give you bread options since they give you cheese options. I'm just not a big white bread fan. They were pretty busy the entire time I was there but the girls working the counter did a great job. They even came out and checked on me while I was eating to see how I liked my lunch. The girl who helped us when we first came in was so great with us being first timers and really guided us through the menu and took the time to answer any questions that I had. It was just such a different experience especially for a place Centered on selling soup. The only other thing I wish is that they were open later than 4 PM every day. My older kids would love coming here after school for an afterschool snack. I guess we'll just have to catch them on the weekend

I love the variety, if you're in the mood for soup and don't want to get bogged down shopping and getting tempted to buy more at Oryana, then this is the place for you. I have to agree about the price...$5 for 8-10 oz. of soup is a bit much compared to $2.99 at Oryana for 8 oz. Other than that, the fries are awesome, the flavors of the dipping sauces are MANY and the soup varieties and types are outstanding. I love that you can taste all the soups before you buy and I also like the sanitary way they do it (I saw someone at Oryana actually taste off of a spoon once). I haven't tried the grilled cheese but if you did a full lunch you'd be leaving after dropping $10-12...maybe more. The saving grace with the pricing is the punch card (which I found out about at my third visit) that once filled buys you a lovely meal, and the soup flight which I did today with 3 small soups for $12...I'll eat 1.5 for lunch and the rest for dinner.

Running short on time and looking for something new for lunch, I decided to venture around the corner to the new-ish lunch spot near my office- The Soup Cup! I am surprised there haven't been any reviews so far. I walked in to an open space with a large board of soups and other menu items, which include a variety of Grilled Cheese Sammies and their handmade Belgian Fries with dipping sauces. The Belgian Fries sounded amazing today, but I'd probably be in a food coma by 3. I was greeted by a couple of girls, one asking if I had ever been before, so I said no, and she explained that they make their own soups daily, and were featuring 8 foreign soups in honor of this week's Film Festival. Cute idea. I opted for the Cream of Black Eyed Pea. It's delicious- and the board even shows how fattening each soup is. She also informed me that they post their soups for the next day online each evening- they will even e-mail you an alert if you have a soup preference- say, you really love mushrooms. Bam, they'll let you know a soup of the mushroom variety will be on the menu the next day. So, here's what else I had to choose from and the cute little key from their website: Rasam (Spicy Lentil) - V, G, L Roasted Veggie - V, G, L Cream of Black Eyed Pea - G Bavarian Chicken Spaetzle Sopa de Tortillas - L Asian Beef w/ Ramen - L Corsican Minestrone - L Calallo (Western Caribbean Greens w/ Crab) (SPICY) - G, L ------(all soups come with Old Mission Multigrain Bread) V = Vegan; G = Gluten Free; L = Lactose Free I mean, how could one even decide?! I sampled the Rasam, the Callalo, and finally (my choice) the Cream of Black Eyed Pea. Definitely returning for some fries and grilled cheese. This will be a perfect lunch spot once fall arrives and the leaves start falling! Oh, but bring cash- no cards accepted!

I've been here numerous times now and am taking 2 stars off of my original review. The soups just aren't as good as they were at the beginning - too many weird options most days. I do wish they would keep a few classics on a regular schedule. The fries and dipping sauces are still good. The owners are friendly and the other staff is hit-or-miss. I had to un-follow their Facebook page because they waaayyy over posted and it clogged my news feed, so now I think to go there much less often. My main problem though? They just recently raised their prices by 25%! I can't believe their costs have gone up that much, and they're cash only so it's not like they're paying credit card fees. I was shocked the other day when I went for lunch and found that a (very) small soup was $5! Really, unless it's made using all organic and local ingredients (which I'm sure it's not), the small cup of soup should be $3.

I have been to the Soup Cup multiple times over the last several months, sometimes, twice a week. They have 8 different soups to choose from every day, all from scratch. The Reuban Chowder, Crab and Corn Chowder, any of the "...Gone Wild Rice," are some of my favs, but have tried many more that I have loved as well. There are some I have not enjoyed, but that is the beauty of choosing from eight different soups, which they happily let you sample before ordering. The staff is friendly, fun and very helpful with explaining what is in each soup. They also make a special grilled cheese each day, the roasted pork and pepper jack being my favorite. Also hand cut frites (fries) with a choice of like a gazillion dipping sauces. You can eat in at one of the long counters that run along the windows, perched on a stool, but I usually prefer to carry my booty back to the office. Wish they opened at 10:30 instead of 11, since I get into work really early on some days, but at least I can call my order in ahead of time after seeing the daily soup offerings on their website. Closed on Sundays and Mondays for now, but maybe that will change. I hope so, I seem to be in the mood for soup on Mondays. Oh, cash only (checks too), so stop by the ATM before you go.

Very cute idea. The people there are souper friendly :). Bottom line is they make eight different soups every day and the menu changes every day. They have a selection of grilled cheeses and awesome fries with over 20 dipping sauces. So the soup was fine, the fries awesome, the grilled cheeses yummy. Too many choices on how to serve so few items. We were overwhelmed. With the menu completely changing every day, it makes it difficult to anticipate.
